I have to apologize that I have not sent out very many updates on with the Bulldog Band! I will say, that I have received so many compliments on both the High School and Junior High Marching Bands. Thank you all so much for your kind words and support! The Bulldog Band started their season at home, hosting the First Annual Ozark Highland Conference Marching Clinic. Four schools from our conference attended the event with clinicians working with each group for roughly 40-45 minutes each. It was great to see a marching event back on campus, again! Then the Bulldog Band traveled to the Carl Junction Marching Festival where they placed 2nd in their class, and brought home Outstanding Color Guard for their class. This was not the outcome that we wanted, but it helped shape the rest of the season for us. This is where the kids started to understand what Mr. White was asking of them. It was definitely a learning moment for us all! BOTH Bulldog Bands, High School and Junior High, traveled to Stockton to the Annual Black Walnut Festival Parade. The Junior High competed against Seneca Junior High, the only other band in the class, and won 1st Place in their class! This was the first competition that this group has been a part of, for quite some time. The High School competed against Clever HS in the Class 3 portion of the parade, bringing home 2nd Place in their class. The Bulldog Band then traveled to Reeds Spring and competed in the Ozark Mountain Marching Festival. The Bulldog Band was the first group to perform in their class. We had been bumped up a class from where we usually compete. However, the Bulldog Band managed to earn a 2nd Place finish in their class, just behind Aurora and edging out Ava. This earned the Band's first shot at performing in the Finals Competition. At the end of the night, the Bulldog Band finished 4th in their Finals Division. It was some tough competition, and the band needed this boost of confidence, going into the final week of the season. This past Saturday, the Bulldog Band competed in the Annual Maple Leaf Festivities! The Band marched in the parade, competing against other Class 3 schools. At the end of the 3 MILE parade, the Bulldog Band brought home 1st Place in our class, beating East Newton & Seneca. It was a beautiful march, with temperatures staying low for the most part! After the parade, the Bulldog Band had about an hour to rest, because they started their warm-up for the Field Competition at 12:15! The Bulldogs were the biggest band in their class, and took home 1st Place in their class with Best Horn Line & Outstanding Drum Major, as the captions! This put the Bulldog Band into the Finals competition for the final time this season! After the finals competition concluded, the Bulldog Band brought home 10th Place overall, behind Nevada by 6 points. Someone asked me what I thought was the biggest moment of the year. I replied with, "The fact that this group of kids could've easily just quit trying and just kept things mediocre, but they didn't. Trophies are bananas and don't mean anything, but they sure taste good and help to validate their hard work!" This is a big testament to the Senior Class who really works to help move the band forward! I will miss this group of kids next year, not only in their musicianship, but in their personalities! I am so beyond proud of this group their ability to learn, adjust, and keep getting better with each outing! We are wrapping our regular marching season on Friday night. We will be celebrating our Seniors and performing our show one last time this season. If you haven't seen it, we encourage you to come out and support the football team and stick around for an awesome halftime show! I promise, it won't disappoint!
As we start another school year, you can hear the hustle and bustle through the building to prepare for the upcoming seasons! Bulldog Band hosted their Annual Percussion & Color Guard Camp during the last part of July (29-Aug 2). Then the entire band joined those groups for BAND CAMP 2019 on August 5-9.
We didn't get as much done, due to the weather, but we definitely got a great jump start on the season! The Bulldog Band is excited to show off their 2019 Show, "Sombras de Espana", for the public at the First (hopefully) Annual Ozark Mountain Conference Marching Clinic, hosted in ELDO, on Saturday, September 14! The five schools, that make up the conference, will also travel to ELDO to receive some great insight on how to further prepare themselves for the upcoming Competition Season. We will need all hands on deck to pull of this event, so if you are willing to help, please, contact Mr. White via e-mail ([email protected]). We are anxious to get this season started, as it is a major point of pride for the Bulldog Band program! We are also excited to announce that the Junior High Bulldog Band will be adding a performance to their competition season this year! They will be marching in the Black Walnut Festival Parade in Stockton, held on Saturday, September 28, with the parade starting at 2:00 PM! We hope to see all of our fans out in full force at this local parade! It's always fun seeing and hearing the support! Stay tuned, here, for updates, results, and other random news from the Bulldog Band! Last Friday, the Bulldog Band traveled to Southwest Baptist University for the MSHSAA State Large Ensemble Festival. This festival is similar to the band students taking the MAP Test or an EOC for band. The Bulldog Band was the first band on the stage to start the afternoon performances. We performed for a large crowd that was made up of our family and friends, Nevada's Band, Stockton's Band, and some other band directors just watching the performances for the day....Oh yeah, and the three judges! We wound up earning an Exemplary Rating (1 Rating) from one of the judges on the floor and two Outstanding Ratings (2 Ratings) from the other two judges. The band performed very well! They definitely peaked at the right time! From the stage performance, the Bulldog Band headed to the "Sight Reading Room." Anyone who has had to go to this portion of the State Adjudication knows it is not an easy room to conquer! Basically, the band is given SIX MINUTES OF INSTRUCTIONAL TIME to teach a 3-4 minute piece of music. However, there can be no playing of any kind during that 6 minutes. Only discussion, counting, singing, tapping, sizzling, fingering, etc. Once the time is up, the director can't give ANY audible instructions to the ensemble. Those that know me, know this is very difficult! However, I manage to make it work! The purpose is to see if the band is being taught how to be musicians or if they are regurgitating what they know for a judge. At the end of our "Sight Reading" experience, the Bulldog Band was rewarded with an "Exemplary Rating" giving the band an overall "Exemplary Rating" for the MSHSAA State Large Ensemble! That makes THREE YEARS IN A ROW!!!! I am so proud of the Band kids!!! They did so great! Here is a video that Mr. Marsh took for us! Please, enjoy!!! I can’t think of a better way to start MUSIC IN OUR SCHOOLS MONTH! While many students and faculty members were in bed, members of the Bulldog Band braved the cold morning air and loaded a bus for Stockton HS to compete at the MSHSAA District Solo & Ensemble Festival. Here are the results! Satisfactory Ratings Allison Worrell - Mallet Solo Clarinet Trio - Libby Toliver, Blake Carnahan, Cloie Green Outstanding Ratings Noah Marsh - Mallet Solo Jalen Julian - Snare Drum Solo Trombone Trio - Brice Knoll, Tommy Higbie, Kaleb Raff Kaleb Raff - Trombone Solo Brice Knoll - Trombone Solo Brooke Ehlers - Trumpet Solo Clarinet Trio - Hunter Jacobs, Harmony Randolph, Cloie Green Libby Toliver - Clarinet Solo Hunter Jacobs - Clarinet Solo Blake Carnahan - Bass Clarinet Solo Hannah Haberle - Alto Saxophone Solo Exemplary Ratings Christopher Woody - Baritone Solo Trumpet Quartet - Ethan Roberts, Alex Posey, Brooke Ehlers, Kelli Rader Brass Sextet - Ethan Roberts, Alex Posey, Brock Kirbey, Brice Knoll, Chris Woody, Duane Perkins Brock Kirbey - French Horn Solo Ethan Roberts - Trumpet Solo Clarinet Quartet - Hunter Jacobs, Harmony Randolph, Libby Toliver, Blake Carnahan These kids have worked so hard over the last four weeks! The students and groups who earned the Exemplary Ratings will advance to compete at State! We are very proud of them and we look forward to still hearing and working on these pieces to compete at the State Solo and Ensemble Festival in Columbia on April 25! Music is alive and well in El Dorado Springs! The Bulldog Band has had a great marching season! It all started way back in July with our Band Camps and ended this last weekend at the 53rd Annual Maple Leaf Marching Competition in Carthage, MO. We've had our frustrating moments throughout the season with the weather, but we have finally broken through to be really competitive with the "big dogs." The day started early, before the sun was up, at 6:00 A.M. with the students arriving at the school to get dressed and load the trailer and the bus. Around 8:00 AM the Bulldog Band arrived in Carthage for the Parade! The Bulldog Band was entry number 71 in the 52nd Annual Maple Leaf Parade. It was beautiful weather for a parade! Not too hot, but also not too cold! PERFECT weather for the day! We marched for right at 1 hour in the parade and numerous kids have reported that they hit 12,000 steps by 10:30 after the parade! After we finished the parade, we loaded the bus to head to Carthage High School for our field show performance, after a quick bite of lunch. We stepped foot on the field at 1:00 P.M. at what felt like the warmest temperature of the day! The Bulldog Band performed, at the time, their best run of the show this season. The stands were packed for our performance, because after performance was the announcement of the parade awards. The Bulldog Band would win 1st Place in Class 3 for the parade! The Band went up against Seneca HS & East Newton HS bands. It was a very tough competition between these three schools. Once all of the bands performed their Preliminary performance, the moment of truth was coming upon us! The Bulldog Band would end finals with the "Outstanding Horn Line" caption, which is best musical performance, and the "Outstanding Auxiliary" caption, which is the FOURTH time this season that our Color Guard has won this award in FOUR competitions! After the announcement of the caption awards came the ranking awards for Class A. In third place was Fair Grove HS with 113.8 points, second place was Sarcoxie HS with 113.9 points, and WINNING Class A, with a chance to perform in the Finals, was the Bulldog Band with 126.2 points! The Bulldog Band would draw to perform 4th in the Finals Competition and perform at 8:15 P.M. The kids were a little worried, but Mr. White knew that if he could get them to step up their performance, this band could very well be competitive and knock someone off in Finals. To say the kids performed their hearts out, would be the biggest understatement EVER! We followed Branson HS, Webb City HS, and Glendale HS with our performance. The crowd was ruckus and really helped the kids feel very comfortable with the performance. It was a great energy to feed off for the evening! There were many watery-eyed moments for Mr. White as he watch his band perform. So much pride for the Bulldog Band! At the end of the evening, the Finals Competition would end with the following rankings: 10th Place - BULLDOG BAND (135 Points) 9th Place - Branson High School (135.1 Points) 8th Place - Glendale High School (138.8 Points) 7th Place - Webb City High School (140.4 Points) 6th Place - Parkview High School (147.5 Points) 5th Place - Carl Junction High School (156.1 Points) 4th Place - Aurora High School (160.5 Points) 3rd Place - Logan-Rogersville High School (163.1 Points) 2nd Place - Neosho High School (164.5 Points) 1st Place - Lebanon High School (167 Points) To say we were competitive is an understatement. I am beyond proud of all the work the kids have put into this season and couldn't have asked for a better ending. To be 0.1 points behind BRANSON HIGH SCHOOL was amazing. We scored higher than the next three bands in multiple captions, but just couldn't pull it off in other areas of the show. We are excited to perform the show again at the FIRST ROUND DISTRICT PLAYOFF GAME on Friday, against East Newton! We hope that you will join us as we give the show another run for our home crowd! As always, thank you to everyone for the kind words and encouragement offered throughout this marching season! Mr. White always tells his kids that the only opinions that matter are his, the school's, and the community's. We love performing for our friends, family, and fans! We hope to see you at the game on Friday to help cheer on our Bulldog Football team!
Thank you for your continued support! In case you didn't leave your house this weekend, it was a cold & wet weekend for Marching Bands! On Saturday, October 13 the Bulldog Band left for the Branson Marching Invitational at 6:30 AM! Following a long, but GREAT night of football and a drive-in movie, 6:00 AM came way to early for some of the kids...and Mr. White! The Bulldog Band performed at 10:15 AM at Pirate Stadium at Branson High School to a great crowd! This performance was by far the best run the Bulldog Band has had on this show so far this season! The kids really stepped up, played very well, and marched very strong! We got to the end of Class 2 when the Festival Managers made the call to cancel Finals and the awards ceremony. From there, they asked the remaining bands if they wanted to go on in the rain. MOST of the big bands declined. Mr. White made the decision to come home early. We stopped to get some ice cream. YES! Ice Cream...IN THE COLD! At the end of the day, the Bulldog Band earned the following caption awards in Class 1A Preliminary Competition: Outstanding Music, Outstanding Visual, & Outstanding Color Guard (3 straight competitions!). The Bulldog Band also brought home 1st Place in Class 1A, beating Cotter HS (Ark.).
The Bulldog Band will be traveling to ONE more competition this season! The Maple Leaf Parade & Field Show in Carthage, MO is always a highlight for the Bulldog Band. The Parade begins at 9:00 AM starting at the courthouse and traveling down Grant, Grand, & Centennial Streets. Then the Bulldog Band takes the field at 1:00 PM at the NEW Carthage High School on River Street. We would love to see a large support group for our Marching Band! It is sure to be a great show and a fun time! Thank you all for your continued support! The Bulldog Band was at it again this weekend! The Bulldog Band traveled to Stockton on Friday, September 28 for the annual Cedar County Bowl! The Bulldog Band was welcomed by the Stockton Tiger Band with food, music, and fellowship. The two bands gathered together to play the Star Spangled Banner for the pregame festivities of the match-up. The Bulldog Band had a lot to cheer for as the Bulldog Football team took it to the Tigers with a final score of 49-0! It was a great evening to share with our Football Coaches and Players! After a quick night's sleep, the Bulldog Band was up and at it again in competition at the 2018 Black Walnut Festival Parade! The Band competed in the Class 3 portion of the parade against Strafford High School. The Bulldog Band placed first in their class AND brought home a trophy for the OUTSTANDING COLOR GUARD for the entire parade! This meant the Bulldog Band's Color Guard scored the highest out of ALL the bands present in this caption! The Band also scored the highest in the category of Marching & Maneuvering! It was a great weekend to be a BULLDOG! So very proud of each of our students and all the organizations that continue to represent this school and community!
Go Bulldogs! The Bulldog Band had a great first outing this weekend, when they competed at the Carl Junction Marching Festival! The Bulldog Band performed at 10:45 AM in Class A Preliminary Competition. To say that this performance was our best is a MAJOR understatement. The kids felt defeated, but we stuck it out to the awards anyway. At the end of the afternoon, the Bulldog Band received Outstanding Color Guard for Class A AND earned First Place in our class! Other bands in Class A included, Butler High School, Seymour High School, & Miller High School. Because the Bulldog Band won Class A, they were selected to perform in the Finals Competition that evening! The Band then drew to perform in first in the Finals Competition. After a quick rehearsal and covering a few things that the band didn't do so well at in the Preliminary performance, the Bulldog Band took the field at 7:00 PM to start the Finals portion of the night. The phrase, "Night and Day Difference" was completely accurate in the case of the Bulldog Band on Saturday. Music was performed a ton better. The drill was marched a ton better. The Bulldog Band looked like the Bulldog Band we all know and love! At the end of it all, the Bulldog Band came home with 10th Place in Finals. Other Finals bands were Willard High School, Webb City High School, Aurora High School, Logan-Rogersville High School, Branson High School, Parkview High School, Carthage High School, Mt. Vernon High School, & Nevada High School. All-in-all I would say that the Bulldog Band redeemed themselves from their Preliminary Performance and had a great run in Finals! The Bulldog Band will be back at it this weekend, traveling to the Cedar County Bowl in Stockton, and then going back to Stockton for the Black Walnut Festival Parade, which starts at 2:00 PM. Thank you all for your continued support! We hope to see and hear you at the football game and at the Black Walnut Parade, which is Friday, September 28 & Saturday, September 29! |
