On Friday, March 10, the Bulldog Band and the EHS Choir traveled to San Antonio, Texas at 9:00 A.M. The Band and Choir traveled throughout the day, finally arriving in San Antonio just before midnight. The kids and chaperones got checked into the hotel and got some good sleep before the REAL fun began! On Saturday morning, the students and chaperones were up and ready to start the day. They loaded the bus with their Tour Manager, Eric, and drove to Sea World! After getting a few group pictures, the students were released into the park to explore and have some fun. ALL students and chaperones attended the 2:30 show of "Shamu: One Ocean." Some students chose to sit in the "Splash Zone", while others chose to sit just beyond. Students were also given the opportunity to watch "Ocean Discovery", which spotlighted the beluga whales and the Pacific White-sided Dolphins. Another show that students took in was "Sea Lion High." Here the students got to see many sea lions doing tricks and trying to graduate high school by completing various tasks. All-in-all, the students and adults had a blast getting to experience so many of the seas beautiful creatures! The group then went downtown to Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville to enjoy a delicious meal. The group then walked to the America's Tower, to view the skyline of San Antonio. The kids enjoyed seeing a city skyline at night and all the lights of the city. Sunday morning came a little earlier then anticipated, due to Daylights Saving Time, and the group headed off to Six Flags: Fiesta Texas. The morning was a little cooler than expected, with temperatures in the 50's, but we made best of the day! Mrs. Stewart, Mrs. Phelps, and Mr. White made a quick stop to pick up some cool super hero socks and capes! As the day went along, the weather warmed up and it was perfect roller coaster riding climate. The group went downtown, after the park, for dinner and play at Dave & Buster's. The kids received a player's card with 122 credits on them per student. The students were able to play arcade games to receive tickets and purchased some goodies with their tickets. Finally, Monday morning came around and everyone was up and loading their luggage on the bus for the journey back home, and preparing for our performances at The Main Plaza in heart of downtown San Antonio. The band played four numbers, The Alamo March, Explorations, Ammerland, & Rough-Riders March. A small crowd gathered as the band was performing. Sound Collage, EHS's Show Choir, also performed their entire 2016-2017 Show. The students all performed very well, considering the light mist that was coming down during the performance. After the performances, the group rode the bus to the Alamo. The students and chaperones were given an hour to venture around the Alamo and view all historical elements on the site. Lunch was then had at Fuddrucker's. The group also enjoyed a Rivercruise through the historical Riverwalk. The groups learned very interesting facts about the city of San Antonio and some of the buildings downtown. The group then finished the trip with a viewing of the "The Alamo", where we all learned why and how the Texans fought for the Alamo against Mexico. The trip was officially over when the bus pulled into the parking lot at EHS at 5:00 A.M. The students enjoyed their time on the trip, but they were also ready to get back home and relax the rest of Spring Break Week! This trip would not have happened without our amazing travel company, Unique Travel and Tours, Inc., from Hooks, Tx. The travel company scheduled everything on the trip and allowed Mrs. Steward, Mrs. Phelps, and Mr. White to enjoy the trip and not stress out about the details of the trip. Thank you to Eric & Laura, and the rest of the Unique Travel and Tours, Inc. family! The Music Faculty would like to thank all the kids and the chaperones for a great trip with very little drama and no major problems! We look forward to providing another opportunity to travel in another 2 years! Maybe.....Disney World? Seattle? Washington D.C.? Who really knows? But we will keep you all posted!
Madison Posey is a Senior band member in the El Dorado Springs Bulldog Band. Madison has played Percussion for Concert Band and Color Guard for Marching Band since Freshman year.
After high school, Madi plans to attend Crowder College. Madi's plan is to major in Elementary Education or Math Education, then become a teacher. Madi's hard-work and determination will definitely be to her advantage as she goes through her college years and far into her future. Other questions asked of Madi:
Mr. White will miss Madi's willingness to work and constantly learn new concepts when it comes to playing percussion.
